Discussion about and negotiations to achieve a "Two-State Solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remain in the headlines throughout the world. Both of us, one Jewish American, the other Palestinian refugee, were born into a world where the struggle over this small “Holy Land” territory would come to dominate much of our lives. Both of us would grow up to become involved in significant and complimentary ways with the "The Peace Process" and the seemingly never-ending attempts to make the “Two-State Solution" real.
In this book, through our unusual collaboration and dialogue together, we grapple with the following major issues:
- How did the idea of two States, in what was until the end of World War II an area known as Palestine west of the Jordan River, come about?
- How has this idea, and discussions about it, changed at different times in history?
- Why is it that so many Jews and Zionists are now in favor of the “Two-State Solution” while so many Palestinians and their supporters are opposed?
- Why has the United States been the champion of the “Two-State Solution” over so many years and yet never succeeded in bringing it about?
- What are the prospects today, after all that has happened in the past, for a real and lasting “Two-State Solution” now?
